Dr. Pants and I used dahlias for the bouquet/boutonnière flowers in our wedding. We didn't have any sort of particular love or obsession with them beforehand, I just thought they were pretty and there was a place we could get some farm fresh dahlias the day before the wedding for a nice price, so we went with it. Of course, now they hold special meaning for us because, you know, we used them in our wedding.

A couple years ago I ordered some dahlia tubers from the The Dahlia Barn (in the same varieties we used in our wedding) and Dr. Pants planted them in our little deck garden. But he planted them a little late, and while one stalk shot up, we never got any flowers. He replanted them this year though (along with some strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and hops), and now we have one beautiful flower and several buds.

The other day I caught myself staring out at the deck at our dahlia, thinking of our wedding day. It's nice to be able to bring back such wonderful memories just by looking at a flower.

P.S. If you live in Western Washington, definitely take a trip out to The Dahlia Barn between August and October to pick some flowers!
